40% Americans Never Heard of Indian PM Narendra Modi, Says Pew Research Survey

According to the latest survey conducted by Pew Research Center, 40% of American adults are not aware of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Of those who are familiar with Modi, 37% have little or no faith in his ability to make the right decisions regarding global affairs.

In the survey, it was found that 59% of individuals aged 18 to 29 in America have not heard of the Indian Prime Minister, Modi. In contrast, only 28% of individuals aged 65 and above reported the same. The study also revealed that among both Republicans and Democrats, the majority of respondents are not aware of Modi, who has been India’s Prime Minister since 2014.

From March 20th to 26th, the American public was surveyed about their confidence in seven global leaders’ ability to make the right decisions regarding global affairs.

Out of the respondents, 40% said they have never heard of Indian PM Narendra Modi, while 35% were unaware of the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz. In addition, approximately 26% had not heard of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and 24% had no knowledge of the French President, Emmanuel Macron.

In the survey, it was found that Americans have the most trust in the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, among the seven world leaders mentioned. Over half of the US adults (56%) expressed some level of confidence in Zelenskyy to make the right decisions regarding global affairs. In contrast, only 21% of American adults reported the same level of confidence in Modi.

Among the seven world leaders, Chinese President Xi Jinping (8%) and Russian President Vladimir Putin (7%) received the least amount of confidence from Americans. In terms of the Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu, Americans held a more negative view, with 42% expressing no confidence in him, while only 32% expressed confidence.
